Not Your Average Doughnut
I don’t trust people who say they don’t like doughnuts … they’re fried deliciousness in a doughy, sugary delight. But alas we’re not talking about that kind of doughnut, we’re talking about one of the coolest ways to enjoy the water with your friends that I’ve seen in a very long time.
Getting out onto the water with friends and or family to enjoy the sun and a dip can make a weekend, but unless you have a boat and a licence to captain that boat it can be difficult and expensive to organise. That’s where another kind of donut comes into play.
Aqua Donuts is a company that offers a unique experience right here on the Sunshine Coast. Their product is a rentable raft, in the shape of a doughnut that’s propelled by a small electric motor. Plus it comes with a barbecue, eskies, wireless speakers and seating for ten. It’s a seriously big doughnut. And the best part? You don’t need a licence to pilot it and it’s so much, more affordable than renting a full on party boat.
A few weeks ago, the lads and I rented one as part of a ‘guys weekend’. We filled the esky with ‘adult beverages’ and crafted the perfect music play-list for group ‘karaoking’ our way down the Noosa River. We had an incredible time. We picked a stellar day, with plenty of warm sun and calm waters – lucky, since non of us are that seaworthy so rocky waters rarely play well with us.
For two hours we floated up, down and around the Noosa River laughing, singing and thoroughly enjoying ourselves – but these rafts aren’t just for reliving your rowdy teenage partying days. They’d be perfect for family day out for picnic on the river, or a fishing trip with a couple of mates. All and all, for $180 it’s an awesome way to experience the beauty of the Noosa River.
