Drive by films – Starry Nights Outdoor Movies
It used to be that the standard Saturday night was spent with your best girl at the local drive-in, watching movies and trying to sneak a snog or two. Unfortunately, along with many of the old classics, the Drive-In movie is a dying breed, with bigger screens and candy bars available at your local cinema, complete with sticky floor and ridiculous air-conditioning. Thankfully, a fantastic organisation is brining the drive in back, right here on the Sunshine Coast.
Starry Nights Outdoor movies began operation in 2009 under the name of ‘Flicks in the Sticks’ before changing up their outdoor theatre style, to a mobile ‘we come to you’ business model. Starry Nights runs a series of drive-in movie experiences, while also being available for hire for different events up and down the coast. Their next Drive-In event is this September 1st – with a double feature too cool for the regular big screen. This September 1st, for $25 per car (Pack a few friends into the boot for extra value!) we’ll be watching the oh-so-cool double Tarantino line-up of Pulp fiction and Reservoir Dogs – both R rated, and for good reason. Tarantino is renowned for his bloody and violent story telling, with some incredible artistic choices that make him one of the most popular directors of our generation. Pulp fiction is probably his best known creation, featuring Uma Thurman, John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, and Bruce Willis, as well as a host of other huge names before they were huge. This movie is all about some seriously cool gangsters, and the stories of the people they meet. Reservoir Dogs is another crime movie all about a group of thieves coming together to pull off the ultimate diamond heist, featuring Tim Roth, Harvey Keitel, and Steve Buscemi to name a few.
If bloody, gory, and artistically driven action films aren’t your taste, there are plenty of other events presented by the Starry Nights Outdoor Movies crew, which you can view on their coming events page. For those of you planning events, or in particular a fundraiser, and after something a little different, Starry Nights is available for bookings, and with director Trent Harvison having an extensive history in both event planning and not-for-profit work, the Starry Night team is ready and willing to assist you in making sure you get the most from your events. For more information and booking, check out their website and I’ll see you, and your main squeeze, at the next drive-in.
