Autumn is the perfect time to be active, with the cooler air and clear days making it inviting to get outdoors. Bike riding is a great activity to do as a family, as even the youngest can easily be involved.

The Sunshine Coast is perfect to explore via bike, and is full of scenic rides for the whole family. The Council has invested in safe pathways and dedicated bicycle lanes to ensure the very best rides for bike fans. Here are the top 4 places on the Sunshine Coast to take the family for a bike ride this autumn.

Mooloolaba

If you’re looking for a short and easy ride for the little ones, Mooloolaba offers a section of paths which meander close to the beach. There are plenty of playgrounds along the way, so planning to stop often is a good idea. When it’s time to take a break, why not park the bikes and take an outdoor table at the Surf Club to enjoy the view and some of the tasty local food.

National Park Adventures

For something a little more challenging, there are numerous off-road trails for mountain bikers that wind their way through picturesque National Park settings. There’s something for everyone, from 5km beginner tracks to over 20km rides that require a high level of fitness and experience.

Always remember to take plenty of water, some high energy natural snack foods and keep an eye on how the kids are coping with the terrain. After all, a safe experience is a fun experience!

Caloundra’s Coastal Pathway

This breathtaking route covers 9kms of scenery through a dedicated walking and bicycle pathway. The whole family will enjoy the opportunity to explore the stunning natural appeal of Caloundra, including creeks, lakes, beaches and the majestic surf. You can also expect to see the lighthouse on your travels from Bells Creek to Point Cartwright.

As it has been designed just for walkers and riders, the Coastal Pathway is a safe and enjoyable way to ride with your family without having to worry about motorists. This is a beautiful ride which isn’t too challenging, and is definitely a must-do with the family this autumn.

Surf Beaches Trail

Starting at Peregian Beach and ending at Noosa Junction, the majority of this ride is off-road coastal bikeway. Spectacular views are guaranteed as you explore the beautiful coastline by bike. You can ride one way, or complete it return which takes the length to 23kms.
