We are lucky to live in a country where outdoor sports can be played all year round; one of the most popular to date is golf. The Sunshine Coast boasts an array of world class golf courses, but not all of them come at an affordable price or are available to the average punter.
So where do you go? Obviously, you want the best bang for your buck; a fairway full of fun, presents a challenge and is further complemented by its picturesque backdrop. Here’s the top four courses at under $100 a pop.
Horton Park Golf Club
Regardless of the fact that Horton Park will be moving to Bli Bli from Maroochydore in mid-2014, a thriving membership has remained faithful to their favourite club. The greens are in great condition and it’s an easy walk due to the flats; there’s plenty of water hazards that may cause some trouble, but if you consider yourself a daring golfer, then these slight obstacles shouldn’t pose too many problems. If you’re looking to join, the fees for members are only $34 and for visitors, 18 holes will cost $50.
Headland Golf Club
Located in the hills of Buderim, Headland Golf Club has a prestigious 55 year history, attracting numerous awards, including the Queensland Golf Club of the Year. It’s evident from this accolade, that Headlands is a club that delivers superior services to its players. The 18 hole, 6086 metre Championship Course does require a certain level of fitness; but once you wind your way through the lush flora and share the green with Kangaroos and countless bird life, you stop worrying about the hilly terrain. Although Headlands is climbing up there in price, it’s well worth the thirty to fifty dollars required to take the caddy out.
Mt Coolum Golf Club
Known as the hidden gem on the Sunshine Coast, Mt Coolum Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course nestled at the base of beautiful local peak, Mount Coolum. While shooting your game, you’ll understand why it has been recognised as one of the most beautiful fairways on the Coast. It’s a relatively flat course with an abundance of water in play, making for a great lazy day out on the green. To play the full eighteen, it will only cost $48.
Palmer Coolum Resort
If you consider yourself a golfing aficionado, there is one golf course you need to play, at least once in your lifetime. Owned by Australia’s most illustrious mining magnate and now independent parliamentarian, Clive Palmer, the Palmer Coolum Resort is an 18-hole, 72 par course for the finest enthusiasts, attracting the likes of Bubba Watson, Greg Norman and Ricky Fowler. Recently retired from the PGA circuit, the greens are now decorated by quirky dinosaur statues, making even the tallest golfer feel tiny. Don’t let these prehistoric giants distract you, you need your best game face on. To play at this individual fairway, it will set you back $99 for 18 holes.
Eighteen holes, a few hole-in-one’s and little time in the pit, followed by a schooner at one of these amazing clubs is the perfect way to finish off the weekend.
