Art Valley – Mary Valley Arts Festival 2019
Australia has an incredible list of famous artists and works of Art that it has inspired that stretch back throughout human history. Since Australia’s first peoples began painting on themselves and their land, Australia has produced amazing artists and works of art – from traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander works, to incredible modern installation pieces, and everything in between. How could the artistically inclined help but be inspired by such a truly remarkable and beautiful land such as ours – including right here on the Sunshine Coast. From our white sandy beaches to our hinterland rainforests and lush green rolling hills, there really is no shortage of inspiration for any genre of artist. In an effort to help promote and strengthen the local arts industry on the Sunshine Coast, the organisation known as Mary Valley Arts Inc hosts a number of events throughout the year, giving artists and art lovers alike a platform to display, sell and inspire one another – and their biggest event yet is this year’s Mary Valley Arts Festival, this July 5th, 6th and 7th.
The event itself begins on Friday the 5th of July with the opening night and awards presentation. The night offers punters the chance to meet with each other and the artists to view and discuss their works in person in a relaxing atmosphere complete with music, wine and finger food. The night will also hold an awards ceremony for the committee’s choice in a number of genres. The Galley will be open daily from 10am until 3pm for viewings over the three days for an entry fee of $3 per person. On Saturday the 6th of July there will be a night of reflection from the event’s curator – speaking on the event itself, but also the state of modern art in the 21st century. Licensed bar and nibbles will be available. On the final day of the festival, celebrations will really begin, hosting the Youth Art Awards and the People’s Choice awards. The day will also play host to plenty of live music, markets and a delicious choice of food trucks from 11am.
The festival itself is a great community event that supports and promotes local talent – from budding young guns to more established icons of the local area. It truly is a fantastic and worthy cause to support, as well as an opportunity to pick up some fantastic works to add some flavour to your home.
