A Race to the Top – Noosa Hill Climb Winter Challenge
In 1897 in a small, little known town in the South-East of France, one of the oldest forms of Motorsport was invented, the Hill Climb, or otherwise known as Speed Hill Climbing. It’s a rather unique form as it is a race against the clock on a twisting mountain road, and quite simply the racer with the fastest time is crowned champion.
There are many famous Hill Climb races dotted throughout the world, predominantly in Europe and of course… Noosa. That’s right, it’s that time of year again. The Noosa Hill Climb Winter Challenge is here again this July 22nd to the 23rd, and this year it’s set to be bigger and better than ever with some of the best racers from the Touring Car Master series joining in the fun. There will also be some special VIP guests making appearances throughout the weekend.
Touring Car Masters is Australia’s top series for Historic Touring Cars from the classic period of muscle car competition between 1964 and 1979. The series brings together some of the most iconic brands and models from Muscle Car history and creates a racing series full of unique sounds, sights and an on-track product like no other. TCM cars are loud, fast, most likely will be going sideways flat out when you see them. Exciting stuff. The racers themselves count amongst them some Bathurst legends as well as a crop of new talent that are very capable of amazing examples of driving prowess. As well as all of these amazing cars and racers, the legendary Dick Johnson will be making a series of appearances over the weekend to meet fans and sign autographs.
That’s right, this year at the Noosa Hill Climb Winter Challenge you have the chance to meet the 5 times Australian touring car champ, 3 times Bathurst 1000 winner, and v8 Supercar Hall of Famer Dick Johnson.
Thanks to Southern Cross Sheds and Autobarn, the Noosa Hill Climb Winter Challenge will be held on Gyndier Drive Tewantin, and consists of a track with 14 corners, winding through the stunning National Park roads. The event draws competitors from far and wide which guarantees maximum spectator entertainment with non stop thrills and spills of close competition – all in an effort to be the fastest car to the top.
The Noosa Hill Climb is classed as one of the premier hill climb events in Australia. It has attracted notable contenders in the past, such as Vern Schuppan, Kevin Bartlett, Dick & Steve Johnson, and Glenn Seton – just to name a few. The event will play host to a broad range of makes and models of racing machines competing, including: Skelta, XU1s, Minis, Fiats, GTs, Jags, Open Wheel Hill Climb Specials – plus the Touring Car Masters cars. There is sure to be at least one car that will stir your passion.
So gather your friends and family and come along and enjoy this great adrenaline fuelled event – for $15 for the day, or $25 for the weekend – children under 14 enter free. For more information on the event as it gets closer, visit the event webpage on the Noosa Car Club’s Website.
