The Maleny Agricultural Show is returning once again, beginning on Friday, 29th May and finishing up on Saturday, 30th May 2015. This will be the 78th Maleny show, and will be in celebration and honour of the one hundredth anniversary of Anzac day. If you love cars, bikes, sheep, cows or anything else that says country and agriculture, then this is an event not to be missed. It will be filled with babies and fully-grown animals of all shapes and sizes, and engines of all power and applications.
The 2015 Maleny Show Ball will be held on Saturday 16th May, 2015 at the Maleny Showgrounds Pavilion, starting from 7:30pm till late. The night will also celebrate those who have entered the Show Personality competitions including Miss Showgirl, Junior Show Princess, Rural Ambassador and Charity Person. The Sunshine Swing Band, sponsored by Easton Lawyers, will be performing on the night, offering a mix of both the traditional dance songs as well as a mix of country/pub music. While the other two events of the night are about beauty and personality, the Charity person event is something very different. To be eligible to enter, an entrant must have raised over one thousand dollars for the Showgrounds in any number of charitable events and be over the age of fifteen. The prize? Two thousand dollars worth of travel vouches.
During the day the amount of entertainment on offer is staggering. Both days of the show you can enjoy The Crack Up Sisters, who will roam around the grounds performing whip cracking workshops and holding competitions for all. The Eljay Motorcycle Stunt riders will also be performing. There will be pavilion exhibits, an animal nursery and an amazing dreamtime reptile pit. For those looking for some spectator sports, both days will play host to a number of equestrian show-jumping events and Working Dog competitions, from agility showcases to barrel racing. Further more there will be wood chopping competitions, vintage cars and motor cycles. These are just a few of the events showcased this year at the Maleny Show.
My favorite part of the show has always been the rodeo. For me, watching these brave men straddle a crazed bull and cling on for dear life as it tries anything and everything to throw them loose, is one of the most exhilarating viewing experiences in life. The brutal struggle of willpower, strength and determination between a mere man and one of the strongest beasts around is something of legend and fantasy. The greatest cowboys of our era will be there to show us their chops in the arena, all for your entertainment and praise.
It’s not all just about fun and games this year at the Maleny Show. There’s a lot to learn about country and farm living, and everyone has the chance to get a taste of what it’s like. A lot of young kids have no idea how milk is made or where it comes from, so why not show your little ones exactly how it all works, with the cow milking at the dairy pavilion. Kids and adults alike can learn how to milk a cow, separate the cream from the milk, and make their very own butter.
